Happy Sunday, everyone!
No, that’s not a mistake in the post title—I’m covering the past two weeks, seeing that today is the first day of February. I can’t believe that it’s February already, not to mention that it’s my birthday month. ☺️
Oh! As you may (or may not) have figured out, I managed to successfully migrate my blog over to my new domain! I’m certainly glad that the renewal costs will be much cheaper, but I truly believe that the .me domain is more fitting for this blog, as my posts aren’t entirely written about tech-related things. It’s still taking a little getting used to, as I’ve developed the muscle memory to refer back to my .tech domain. I’m still tweaking things a tad, but overall, I think I’m good to go! If any of you find any oddities or issues with things, please be sure to let me know so I can take a look.
I am pretty proud of myself I’ll admit. I didn’t have the faintest idea where to really start, and I just jumped right in and figured it all out. While the other Amazon Lightsail instance and domain name are still valid and working, they are simply shut down until I’m satisfied that everything looks and works properly before I kill them off permanently. So far so good though!
This past week has been a little strange. Our area was hit by a particularly nasty winter storm last weekend—which is why I didn’t post last week—and we are still digging our way out of things. Thankfully the amount of snow that landed wasn’t too bad (maybe 4 inches or so), but the amount of ice and sleet that accompanied it is the problem. Everything is covered by a nice thick layer of ice, and with the temperatures all last week never climbing above freezing, things still pretty much look exactly the way they did once the storm passed. This week, however, some of the days will be above freezing, so we might actually see some melting! Fingers crossed!
This Got Me Thinking
Over the last couple of weeks, there were a few things that “got me thinking”, served as reminders, or challenged me to think differently.
Easily the biggest reminder I faced was to slow down. This particular one came in the form of a physical reminder, and probably one I won’t soon forget. Spending some time trying to shovel and break the ice on the driveway, I found myself quickly overheated, to the point of feeling weak and extremely nauseous. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean that you can’t still suffer from overheating. The next day, I took things MUCH more slowly, and accomplished a lot more. Sometimes you need your body to remind you to slow down, especially as you become older (and I absolutely resent accepting that fact 😜).
The other item that comes to mind is that of thinking differently. I was reading a recent post of someone I admire on LinkedIn, and she was writing about how one must pay attention to context, especially in the case of statistics. It can be easy to twist stats when context or scale is downplayed, or even omitted. I always enjoy Thea’s posts or when she is in panel discussions, because she always encourages me to think in different ways, or see things from a different point of view. I strive to try and take in multiple perspectives and ways of thinking as a way to broaden myself.
Finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work the last couple of weeks. Those weeks were extremely sparse in outfits, thanks to working remotely from home for most of it. I hope you enjoy them.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend!
