THE WATER’S EDGE

The Weekly Wardrobe: May 18-22, 2026

Happy Sunday, everyone! For those of you here in the U.S., I hope you are having an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend so far! It’s the unofficial beginning of summer, y’know. 😊 Of course here, it’s been cold and rainy all weekend long, and I am more than happy to deal with it — I’m not ready for melting in the summer heat. Not now, not ever. 🫠

I’ve been looking for ways to make and customize my blog to make it more me — because I’m always trying to make it more me (even when I don’t quite know what “me” actually is, lol) — and I’ve discovered a new avenue for me to explore in the way of customization and personalization: CSS. While I know absolutely nothing about CSS, I do want to delve into it a tiny bit. I see so many neat websites out there that do amazing things with CSS, and I want the ability to do many neat things with my little corner of the internet. If anyone out there has any recommendations on ways to learn (free would be best, or very inexpensive), please let me know. I have a feeling that this is a key that opens up a portal to a whole new universe of my site that I can do whatever I wish — the sky’s the limit.

The Exposed Waters

In just over a couple of weeks, I’ll be heading to one of my favorite local cybersecurity conferences each year: RVASec. This year will mark my sixth year in attendance, and the conference’s fifteenth anniversary. 🤯 It is certainly no DEFCON or BSides in terms of scale, which I’m a little glad that it isn’t. Those have WAY too many people, and I feel like I would be way out of my element at them. I don’t have the technical skills or aptitude for conferences like that, and my impostor syndrome meter would be off the charts for sure. 🤣

There are FAR less people that attend RVASec — likely less than 1,000, and that is perfectly fine with me. I’m still very much an introvert by nature, and an extremely large crowd of people would be rather unnerving. Here, I don’t feel completely overwhelmed, and I can learn a great deal about cybersecurity, and still do a little bit of networking — although my version of “networking” is more like my watching the crowds from the outside, and waiting for something interesting to happen near me, or waiting for someone to approach me.

I never claimed to be good at it. 😜

Still, I’m making small increments in meeting new people and learning new things each year. I even have made a few contacts that I keep in touch with on a semi-regular basis! It’s been my personal goal to meet people who might be outside of my regular cybersecurity circle where I work. This allows me to see different perspectives, and should the need ever arise, I’ll have others I could reach out to for advice or hear about a different way of looking at a problem. It’s also my hope that I can also serve the same function for those people as well.

At the very least, I’ll have folks to reconnect with every year at the conference — and that’s not bad either. 😊

Finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this past week. Unfortunately, the Instagram-alternative platform I’ve been using for over a year now has been extremely unreliable and unstable in recent weeks, and I hate to have to leave the platform entirely, but I may not have much of a choice. All of my attempts to contact the admin of the platform have gone unanswered, wither it has been through support emails or direct contact. I even tried to move to a different server, and in that case, my posts and comments were immediately de-listed and flagged as spam. Just like the original instance, all of my attempts to contact that admin have also gone unanswered and ignored.

Thankfully, past me had the forethought to keep up my subscription to Flickr, which I may now be turning to instead. While Flickr also does seem to go down every once in a while, it has proven far more reliable.

Yes, that’s a very long-winded way of saying “here’s what I wore this week, I hope you like them.” 😜 Have a great rest of your weekend!
